Vegan Gravy and Stocks
Disclaimer: Photos are submitted by the Vegan Womble community. Packaging and ingredients can change over time, so please DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING, and let us know if you spot any changes. We include products that state ‘may contain milk/egg’, i.e. they are at risk of cross-contamination during the manufacturing process. Read more…
This is simply an allergy warning, but these products cannot be marked vegan by law. They are however, generally considered suitable for vegans. To help keep this resource going, Vegan Womble would receive a small amount of commission if you were to purchase a product, via any affiliate links in this post.
Product suggestions and photos are submitted by the Vegan Womble community – you are our eyes and ears. We will keep adding products as they come in, so please keep sending us your vegan discoveries.
Check out our definitive A-Z list of vegan stocks and gravy to jazz up your meals. From dry cubes, powder and granules to the pre-prepared “fresh” stuff or even yeast extract, you’ll find them all here.
Gluten Free? For any that appear to be Gluten-Free, the entry is marked GF in an effort to be helpful (for a quick-glance) but please always check yourself.
Watch out for:
– not labelled as at least ‘vegetarian’ (or ‘V’);
– ‘Flavourings’ in the ingredients lists (especially if not as above);
– “Disodium 5′-ribonucleotides” or E635 (same thing – can be from plants or animals and OXO is animal-derived).
– the usual suspects: milk, lactose, egg etc. As only allergens appear in bold or uppercase on labels, it can be easy to miss ‘beef/chicken/lamb/fish’ or their ‘…fat/powder/extract’ etc.

Like Oxo, it does not guarantee ‘vegan’ products due to the potential risk of cross-contamination as it also produces products which contain animal-derived ingredients. However, those products below are at least labelled Vegetarian. Other products which are labelled as being suitable for vegans are available from other brands.

Correction: We previously listed Oxo vegetable stock cubes here, but have since found out that they are NOT vegan due to containing the ingredient “Disodium 5′-ribonucleotides” which turns out to be known as E635. This can be derived from both plant sources and animal sources.
We contacted Oxo and it confirmed that it is not suitable. It also said it cannot guarantee any of its products as wholly suitable for a vegan diet due to cross-contamination, but the stocks do not list any ingredients or E-numbers that are not vegan. Alternatives which are officially SFV are available from other brands.
