Review : Make Your Own Body Butter and Lip Balm Kit by Me-Time Therapies
The other week, Geraldine from Me-Time Therapies, asked if I’d like to try her ‘Make Your Own Body Butter and Lip Balm Kit*’ and of course I said I’d love to!
This kit is a brilliant vegan gift idea (for vegans and non-vegans alike). It’s not just ‘smellies’, it’s an activity and a learning experience, suitable even for those who like me, shy away from any kitchen-based activity! I’ll be honest, at first I was a little daunted by the mention of jugs and saucepans and hobs, but it really was simple and enjoyable, and the result gave me a great sense of achievement!
The kit would be perfect for anyone looking for natural, cruelty free and vegan skincare products, especially for teenagers (we all know they can be difficult to buy for). Although given how much I enjoyed the product, I would happily gift it to my grown-up friends too!
Lovely for normal/dry skin type.
Ease of Use
Fun activity, easy to follow instructions, gives a great sense of achievement!
A fair price at £20 on Amazon* for two tins of lip balm and two tins of body butter.
The entire Make Your Own Body Butter and Lip Balm Kit* with its card box and sleeve, and metal tins, is reusable and/or recyclable. The body butter and lip balm are allergen and fragrance free with just 2 natural ingredients, Shea Butter and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (with an option to add your own essential oils for scent).
The kit comes with easy to follow step by step instructions with a link to a YouTube tutorial, in case you need any extra guidance. The lip balm was plain sailing, so I would definitely recommend making this one first, to help get your bearings. The body butter was a bit more involved, requiring an electric whisk and a timer, but that made the result even more gratifying!
The Final Product
The body butter does have an unusual moussey consistency, but glides on beautifully. It’s so smooth and creamy, I love it! It soaks into the skin without leaving too much oily residue and after a few days use, my skin is lovely and soft. It’s also great for keeping my tattoos moisturised.
My dry lips love the lip balm on an average day, but on occasions when I’ve been out in the wind and cold and I’m perhaps little dehydrated, it didn’t quite do the job… but for me very few lip balms do. It will definitely have a place in my handbag for everyday use.
If I was being persnickety, I’d say it would be nice to see labels on the tins of a similar quality to the outer packaging, with a matching design. I would also say it’s easy to be over-zealous with the tins. I had some difficulty opening one after filling it up, and as the lid came away, I squashed the tin, so now it’s a little out of shape!
Overall, I would rate this product highly, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique, crafty, vegan-friendly gift idea, or even an activity for yourself!
The Make Your Own Body Butter and Lip Balm Kit* is available on Amazon, with free delivery within the UK, and – as if you need extra incentive – 10% of the profits go towards buying more medical equipment and beds in a Medical Centre in Ghana.
